Metis Local 1935 have established a Local Council (Board of Directors) to provide leadership and direction on the regional, provincial, and national operation of the nation. Their mandate is to represent the members of the Metis Local 1935, in setting direction and overseeing the activities of the Metis Local 1935.
The Local Council derives its authority from the members of the Metis Local 1935 who elect the Local Council to represent their interests.
The composition and replacement process of the Local Council will be clearly stated in the Metis Nation of Alberta bylaws.
The Local Council will meet in accordance with the schedule set forth in the bylaws, or more often as necessary. Minutes of all meetings will be taken and maintained as a permanent record in the Local files and will be made available for viewing by members upon request.
All members of the Local Council will receive formal orientation on philosophy, mission, principles, goals and objectives, and programs (where applicable) of the Local.
The President and/or Vice President, having responsibility for the operations of the Local Office, will define in writing the responsibilities delegated to the Directors of the Local Office.
The Local Council will participate annually in board development activities to ensure capacity building and effectively carry out the duties entrusted to them by the membership.
