Mission Statement

A strong Metis Nation embracing Metis rights.

Vision Statement

To pursue the advancement of the socio-economic and cultural well being of the Metis people of Alberta.

Guiding Principles

  1. We believe in the National definition of Metis.
  2. We believe in continuing to build our foundation for future generations.
  3. We believe in fairness and respect for all people.
  4. We believe in the need to work in unity and harmony.
  5. We believe in Metis participation in building our Nation.
  6. We believe in encouraging asnd assisting Metis people to achieve their goals.
  7. We believe in honesty, integrity and professionalism.
  8. We believe we will achieve self-government; and
  9. We believe in our Metis rights as recognized and affirmed in Section 35 of the Canadian Constitution.

Our Main Goals

1. Metis Cultural Center
The Board made the Cultural Center a top priority.  The Members participated in a Visioning Workshop by Architects—Busby Perkins & Will that set our four main goals; the Marketing Study, Conceptual Design, Heritage Study, and Fundraising.  The Board realizes the management of this project and acquiring land is also a major part of the development plan.  The Marketing Study was completed  in 2007. 

2. The Metis Heritage, Land, and Occupancy Study
It is determined that a thorough study of the Metis history is necessary to restore Metis identity, pride and status  in this region.  Thus a study themed “Mark of the Metis” was created.  The first phrase was completed in 2010, with the completion of 100 Elders interviewed in the Wood Buffalo Region.  The second phase of the project – the GIS mapping has started.

 3. Metis Governance
(i) The Metis Local now knows its legal status as a Metis Community and is able to apply laws as it applies to Metis and especially the Locals, (ii) developing relationships with Industry & Governments, (iii) Constituency Governance for Metis Nation of Alberta, (iv) Duty to Consult.

4. Infinity Metis Corporation
A Business arm of the Metis Local 1935 was created called Infinity Metis Corporation.  It is through this Corporation that the Local maintains a Camp Catering Contract.
